The short answer
For UAE weddings, choose breathable natural fabrics such as silk crepe, silk chiffon, silk organza and silk or cotton linings for outdoor and daytime events. Save heavy velvet, dense brocade and all-over beading for air-conditioned evening venues. The lining and inner structure affect comfort as much as the outer fabric.
How hot does it get in the UAE?
Very hot in summer, mild in winter. The National Center of Meteorology recorded 51.8°C in Sweihan, Al Ain, on 1 August 2025, the highest August reading in nine years [source]. That is why many couples schedule outdoor elements between autumn and spring, and summer weddings move indoors.
Why are silk fabrics comfortable in heat?
Silk is a natural protein fibre that absorbs and releases moisture, so it feels less clammy than most synthetics. Moisture absorption matters enough that the textile trade uses standard tables of fibres' moisture regain [source]. Silk crepe drapes close to the body; chiffon and georgette add movement and air; organza gives volume without weight.

Which fabric suits which part of the wedding?
| Setting | Good choices | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor milcha or garden ceremony | Silk chiffon, georgette, organza | Velvet, heavy satin |
| Henna night | Silk crepe, chiffon jalabiya | Stiff brocade |
| Indoor wedding night | Silk satin, mikado, embroidered tulle | Unlined polyester |
| Winter evening | Velvet, crepe, brocade | Very sheer fabric without a lining |
Which fabrics should you avoid outdoors?
Heavy polyester satin, fully lined velvet and dense brocade trap heat. They can be beautiful indoors in the evening, but at an outdoor ceremony they are uncomfortable within minutes. If you love a heavy fabric, use it for a cape or jacket rather than the whole gown.
Does the lining matter?
Yes, often more than the outer fabric. A silk habotai or cotton voile lining breathes; a polyester lining does not. In a bespoke gown we choose the lining, interfacing and boning for the venue, and limit structure to where the design needs it.
What about embroidery weight?
All-over beading adds weight and blocks airflow. Placing embroidery where it reads best, on the bodice, sleeves and hem, keeps the gown lighter. Making less is also kinder: the UN Environment Programme reports that the textile industry produces 2 to 8 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions [source].
How do you choose a veil fabric?
Silk tulle is the softest and drapes beautifully but costs more; nylon tulle is lighter on the budget and holds embroidery well. For a long cathedral veil, choose a soft tulle so it moves rather than stands out. Embroidered edges add weight, which helps the veil fall straight in a breeze.
What about strong air-conditioning indoors?
UAE ballrooms are often cold. A bride in a light chiffon gown can feel chilly during a long evening. A silk lining, a sheer embroidered cape or long sleeves give warmth without heaviness, and they can be removed for dancing.
How can you test a fabric at the consultation?
Hold the fabric against your skin for a minute, scrunch it to see how it creases, and look at it in daylight and warm light. Ask to see the same fabric already made up, because drape on a dress form tells you more than a flat swatch.
What linings and inner layers do we use?
We line most bridal bodices in silk habotai or cotton batiste, which sit cool against the skin. Boning is kept to the seams that need it. Skirts use soft tulle or organza layers rather than a stiff petticoat where the design allows, which keeps air moving. Each choice is agreed at the toile fitting, when you can feel the difference.
Do natural fabrics crease more?
Some do. Silk crepe and satin crease less than linen or fine chiffon. For a long day, choose a fabric with some weight, or a design with layers that hide small creases. We steam every gown at collection and can recommend a steamer for the day.
Frequently asked questions
Is satin too hot for a summer wedding in Dubai?
Polyester satin often is. Silk satin or silk crepe-back satin breathes better, especially with a silk lining.
What fabric is best for an outdoor milcha?
Silk chiffon, georgette or organza over a light silk lining, with embroidery concentrated rather than all-over.
Can a heavily embroidered gown still be comfortable?
Yes, if the base fabric and lining are light and the embroidery is placed strategically.
