The short answer

Prepare for each bridal fitting by bringing the exact shoes and undergarments you will wear, plus jewellery and the veil or shayla. Bring one or two trusted people, not a crowd. Arrive with clean, product-free skin and hands, allow at least an hour, and say clearly what feels uncomfortable.

What should you bring to every fitting?

  • Your wedding shoes, or shoes of the same heel height
  • The undergarments or shapewear you plan to wear
  • Jewellery for the neckline and wrists, especially heavy necklaces
  • Your veil, shayla or headpiece, if you already have it
  • Inspiration images for hair, so the neckline and veil can be judged together

Why does skincare matter at a fitting?

Because fresh fake tan, body oil, perfume and make-up transfer onto silk and are very hard to remove. Arrive with clean, dry skin and add perfume after the fitting. The same applies to pearls on the gown and in your jewellery: the GIA warns that hair spray, perfume, cosmetics and even perspiration can damage pearls [source].

Pearl is ranked 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, which means it's very soft and easily scratched or abraded.

Who should come with you?

One or two people whose opinion you trust, and ideally the same people each time, so feedback is consistent. Large groups make it harder to hear your own view. For the final fitting, bring the person who will help you dress on the day, so they learn the fastenings and the bustle.

How do you give useful feedback?

Describe what you feel and see rather than the fix: "the waist feels low", "I cannot lift my arms", "I want more coverage at the back". Sit, walk, raise your arms and try a few dance steps. If you plan to pray in the gown or kneel at any point, test that too. Small discomfort becomes large after six hours.

When should the final fitting be?

Two to three weeks before the wedding, so small adjustments can be made calmly. Book every fitting at the start of the process, because the busy months fill fast: Dubai registered 7,265 marriage contracts in 2025, 24.95 per cent more than in 2022 [source]. The bridal timeline planner gives your dates.

Should you bring your hijab or veil?

Yes, from the toile fitting onwards. The neckline, hijab drape and veil placement affect each other, and testing them together avoids surprises. See bridal styling with a hijab.

What should you eat and wear on fitting day?

Eat normally; there is no need to diet before a fitting, and a gown fitted to a hungry body will not suit the real one. Wear easy-to-remove clothes, keep hair tied back, and avoid deodorant marks by applying it well before you arrive.

What happens after the final fitting?

The gown is pressed, final threads are trimmed, and it is packed for collection or delivery. You will be shown how to fasten it, bustle the train and attach the veil. Bring the person who will dress you on the day.

What if something does not fit at the final fitting?

Small changes, a hem or a seam, can be made in days. That is why the final fitting is two to three weeks before the wedding, not days. Tell the atelier at once; do not wait to see if it settles.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to a bridal fitting?

Easy-to-remove clothes, the undergarments you will wear on the day, and your wedding shoes.

Should I wear make-up to my fitting?

Keep it minimal and avoid foundation near the neckline. Make-up transfers easily onto silk.

How long is a bridal fitting?

Allow at least an hour, longer for the final fitting with all accessories.

Can I bring children to my fitting?

It is best not to. Fittings involve pins, open seams and delicate fabric, and you will want to concentrate. Bring them to see the finished gown instead.

What if I miss a fitting?

Tell the atelier as early as possible so it can be rescheduled. A missed fitting can delay the next stage, especially close to the wedding.
